February 2008
It is hard to believe that it has been three years since 30 NAFSA members came together in Seattle to form the Peace and Justice SIG. Each year I am more convinced than ever that the P & J SIG plays an important role in helping NAFSA remain true to its
stated goal of creating global citizens by promoting peace and social justice issues in international education. Over the last year the P & J SIG helped organize the Peace and Justice Studies Association Conference in Pennsylvania, recognized the efforts
of the Social Action Club, a group of peace-minded high school students and sponsored the presentation of Greg Boyd in Minneapolis. Nevertheless, much work remains to be done.
After two years as co-chairs, Dan Olds and I have decided that in the interest of advancing the P & J SIG to the next level, a new person should assume the leadership of the SIG. Michael Johansson became chair of the P & J SIG in December of 2007 and has
already developed some exciting initiatives for the upcoming year.
I plan on supporting Michael and the SIG this year and I believe that 2008 will be the best year yet for the Peace and Justice SIG.
I look forward to seeing everyone in Washington, DC!
